the artist

Blue Monk
Stephen Maffin has always been drawn to the figure, the face in particular, and is fascinated by texture and material. His art is a product of process and discovery, created in a medium he designed in order to explore both architecture and accident. Casting a mixed blend of plasters onto burlap, he seals and then cracks the plaster to produce outlines of an image. He then applies washes of acrylic inks, paint, and finally oils until achieving the final image.
